Barbican Quartet
Winners of the 2019 Joseph Joachim Competition and prize winners at the 2022 Vibre! Quatuors à Bordeaux competition, the Barbican quartet stands out with their sensitivity, powerful performances and immense range of expression. Formed in 2014 and currently based between London and Germany, the quartet is formed of violinists Amarins Wierdsma and Kate Maloney, violist Christoph Slenczka and cellist Yoanna Prodanova.
Recipients of the Royal Philharmonic Society Frost Award and Park Lane Group award, the Barbican quartet were St John Smith Square Young Artists in 2020. They made their Wigmore Hall début in 2017 thanks to the Maisie Lewis Award. Recent performances include concerts in Kings Place in London and Allerheiligen-Hofkirche in Munich.
The young quartet has had the pleasure to collaborate with great artists such as Anthony Marwood, Richard Lester, Pablo Barragan and Andrew Marriner and are regularly invited to festivals such as the Peasmarsh Festival, Vibre! Bordeaux, Zeist Muziekdagen and the Montreal Chamber Music Festival.
Currently in the String Quartet Academy with Quatuor Ébène and Eberhard Feltz in Munich, the quartet is also a part of the Chamber Music Academy at Escuela Reina Sofia in Madrid under the guidance of Guenter Pichler.
The Barbican Quartet is grateful to the National Music Instrument Foundation in Amsterdam for the loan of Amarins’ Guadagnini violin and to the Canimex Group Drummondville for Kate’s Vincenzo Panormo violin and Yoanna’s Gagliano cello.
