Rasma Larsens
Violin
Rasma Larsens was born in 1996 in Lucerne, Switzerland, the youngest in a Swiss/ Latvian family of musicians. She began her violin studies at the age of six with her father, renowned violinist Gunars Larsens. At the age of 14 she was accepted to the Pre-college program at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne, where she also received her Bachelor Degree in 2016.
She furthered her studies under the prestigious tutelage of Prof. Dora Schwarzberg at the Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo, and attended various masterclasses with renowned violinists such as Ivry Gitlis, Valery Gradow, Krzysztof Wegrzyn and Pierre Amoyal, among others.
Currently, she is continuing her studies in Vienna at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, in the class of Prof. Lothar Strauß – first Concertmaster of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin.
Rasma is laureate of several competitions such as the Auswahlvorspiel of the Mdw, the International Music Competition Cortemilia and the Schweizerischer Jugendmusikwettbewerb.
Rasma’s orchestral experience includes various projects in prestigious halls across Europe such as the Wiener Musikverein, Wiener Konzerthaus, Sala Verdi, Victoria Hall Genève, among others. These include opera productions with the Angelika-Prokopp- Sommerakademie der Wiener Philharmoniker, Internationales Orchesterinstitut Attergau, Davos Festival Camerata, and more.
In 2020, Rasma became a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra.
In 2021 she was selected by a jury comprised of members of the Wiener Philharmoniker for the role of first concertmaster at the Mdw opera production of Ariadne auf Naxos. She also became a member of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation Live Music Now.
More recently, she was selected to join the first violin section of the Staatskapelle Berlin as one of the orchestra’s new academists, starting in August 2021.
